The Gulf Traffic Exhibition and Conference, which takes place until 11 December at the Dubai World Trade Centre, was officially inaugurated today (9 December) by H.E Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in the presence of H.E Eng. Nadia Musallam Khamis Alnaqbi, Minister Deputy Asst. for Support Services – Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MOID) and other dignitaries.

Officially under the patronage of the UAE’s MOID, government representatives are on hand to talk about current and future tenders, projects and innovations – including smart technology, artificial intelligence and how the UAE plans to integrate this in to the governments smart city goal.

The 2019 conference agenda, which runs throughout the three-day event, will focus on infrastructure, artificial intelligence in transportation, road safety, transpotech and parking. Speaking at the opening session this morning ‘Artificial Eyes in Infrastructure’, Eng. Noura Ali Alhouli, Senior Architecture Engineer & Road Project Manager, MOID said; “One of our two initiatives within AI is the first customised humanoid robot that will act as an expert consultant engineer, well-versed in deep learning, machine learning, and predictive analytics. The robot will help in project planning, design, execution until closing, and finally, operation and maintenance.

Our second project which implements AI is within the safety of residential communities, which uses cameras and facial recognition to track unauthorised visitors, wrongly parked vehicles and even children wandering too far from a community playground. The system is set up to alert the relevant authorities or residents to ensure any issue is dealt with appropriately and efficiently.”

To highlight the importance of road safety, there will be a dedicated content stream and feature area showcasing a number of on-going initiatives. The road safety conference taking place on day two will look at topics such as; The Future Driver – Augmenting the Learning and Certification Journey with Digital Technology with Ahmed Awad, Regional Business Development Director – Transport, IDEMIA; Preventing accidents before they happen using AI-based capabilities with Mohamed Sadek, CEO/Founder COM-IoT Technologies and a keynote speech from Yousuf Harib, Director of Operations at ENOC who will be showcasing their current road safety initiatives road safety.

School Transport Systems (STS) will be showcasing their Smart Safety Bus – a special interactive vehicle tailored to deliver traffic awareness messages to students and encourage them to travel safely. The Smart Safety Bus is one element of the STS’s extended classroom program to educate the wider community and create safety advocacy among children.

“We have a holistic experience for our visitors and exhibitors this year. Our free-to-attend content platform is packed full of engaging sessions from industry leaders and is covering all aspects of the transport industry.
