Behold! The Presentation Of The Century

An out of this world presentation? Easier said than done, right?

Wrong. If you possess the right mindset and the conventional techniques, then you’re all set, so let us walk you through the process of creating your unique presentation.

Tip #1: Find a theme and stay consistent

Be different, be you. Before creating slides, find yourself a theme that amplifies your cause; choose the template, fonts, charts/graphs, and colours according to the atmosphere you want to build around your purpose. Keep it consistent from the beginning so you can devote your productivity to something else.

Tip #2: Pictures reflect a thousand words

Emphasize on pressing matter cogently through visual representation, it gets your point across and gives the audience a feel of what you are trying to convey. Simultaneously, it gives you more time to connect with your audience.

Tip #3: 10-20-30

Thank you, Guy Kawaski. A tip from a marketing specialist himself is that slideshows should always:

  • At most incorporate 10 slides
  • Should be no longer than 20 minutes; and
  • Always use a font size of 30 points.

A key point to note, this golden rule helps to avoid ‘Death by PowerPoint’. Generally, you don’t want to cramp your slide with too much information because you don’t want your audience to read what you already plan to convey to them verbally. Think of it as giving them a little sneak peek, keep them guessing.

Tip #4: First impression? Or last impression?

The world is your stage; you are just about to make an entrance. Indulge your audience in the main subject by playing on their emotions. Start strong by giving them a visceral "wow" moment because you are building rapport! Focus on their needs and tell them what they need to know, not what you want them to know. After all, your first impression is your last impression.

Tip #5: Simplicity is key

It’s all about the core message, therefore, keep it simple, start with a classic ’30-second elevator pitch’ and gradually build it up to support your central topic of discussion. Focus on the key points and only use information that pertains to your core message.

Tip #6: Storytime

Lights! Camera! Action! As humans, nothing grasps our attention more than a good story. Stories subtly encourage us to pay attention to the finer details. Using a good story in your presentation will help you capture your audience’s attention and they are more likely to engage with you and recall all the points later on. Try presenting in the form of a story to connect with your audience.

Tip #7: Your words are your weapon, but so is your voice.

To be an effective presenter you need to modulate your vocal delivery. This supports your delivery by making it appear more confident, persuasive, and influential. Pausing for dramatic effects and raising your voice on important details also keeps the audience at the edge of their seats.

Well spent time on yourself only makes you greater. Make sure to rehearse before presenting your out of this world concept! Perfection is a myth, there is always room for improvement.
