In support of smart transformation and economic development in the UAE
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched the first training series in the field of e-Commerce, emphasizing the role of ICT in enhancing economic development, transition to knowledge economy, and smart transformation in the UAE. The TRA organized a training workshop through the Center of Digital Innovation (CoDI), on the terms of e-Commerce, to raise the companies’ awareness on the importance of the e-Commerce sector, the most important basics and principles of e-Commerce, and its role in enhancing economic development.

The workshop was aimed at small and medium businesses, to raise awareness on the required conditions for practicing e-Commerce, as one of the key activities in terms of growth at the current time. The workshop included information on the e-Payment portal, logistical services management, activation of points of sale services, stores’ management and monitoring, and others.

Mohammad Al Zarooni, Director Policies and Programs Department at the TRA, said: “TRA is keen to encourage the regulatory environment as well as activating initiatives that promote e-Commerce in order to achieve its strategy in enhancing smart lifestyle in the UAE. This workshop is part of the initiatives that aim to support e-Commerce by educating partners on methods and tools of e-Commerce, in light of the advanced digital infrastructure in the country, which allows entities to use ICT capabilities in different economic sectors.”

Al Zarooni clarified that “the e-Commerce sector is one of the main trends of the smart transformation phase. The TRA is responsible of monitoring the accreditation services in the UAE, for the aim of authorizing, accreditation and monitoring of service providers activities in electronic accreditation, providing the technical requirements of a safe and secure e-Commerce market to ensure meeting the interests of enterprises and customers.”

TRA develops e-Commerce and enhances it though focusing on developing regulatory frameworks of online transactions and trading to ensure transparency and electronic protection of customer, in addition to contributing in the development of the UAE digital economy.

TRA aims through the e-Commerce Section, to promote economic development and technical progress through clear and fair standards and criteria, in light of the applied global legislation on e-Commerce. TRA also aims to provide strategic advice for current and new stakeholders interested in e-Commerce.

TRA works to protect customers electronic rights, define their obligations, encourage and facilitate electronic transactions and correspondence through reliable electronic records, and remove any obstacles that may result from the ambiguity of drafting and signature requirements, to enhance legal and economic development to conduct e-Commerce in a secure electronic space.

TRA is committed to reducing fraudulent electronic correspondence and its subsequent changes, as well as reducing opportunities for fraud in e-Commerce and other e-transactions, through establishing unified principles of rules, regulations and standards relating to the authentication and reliability of e-correspondence, to enhance confidence in the validity of the transactions, correspondence and e-records, as well as enhance e-Commerce and other e-transactions on national and global levels, through the use of e-signatures.

The workshop is part of a series of workshops, planned by TRA to raise public awareness on modern economical outcomes of ICT, enabling them to perform their work in a clear and secure manner, ensuring continuity of economic development and further prosperity for the country.
