Following the recent release of its quarterly rankings of 199 passport issuing countries or territories, with an increase in the World Openness Score of 14.8 per cent, across the first three quarters, The Passport Index will be showcasing its unique app and web platform as part of the Web Summit 21 (WS 21), which opens today in Lisbon, Portugal.

In a world now accustomed to disruptive changes to travel, the usefulness of an app that is also the only global index of its kind to offer travellers real-time updates on your passport’s mobility score (MS) is clearly apparent. As a participant at WS 21, the premier global event for gathering the individuals and companies redefining the tech industry, The Passport Index app stands as a pioneer in its field, offering unique functions and travel data otherwise unavailable to travellers, in real-time.

“In today’s unarguably fast-changing travel environment, it becomes a matter of necessity to have the latest, up-to-the-minute information on our individual global mobility and the subsequent arrangements related to that.

“The last 18 months or more have certainly made clear to everyone that passports matter, and The Passport Index app is the ultimate tool for maximising their use,” says founder and creator of The Passport Index, Armand Arton.

In addition to being the only app and web-based platform to track the status of visa-free and visa-on-arrival agreements, across 199 UN countries and passport issuing territories – in real time, the Passport Index also details temporary travel restrictions. These can include, but are not limited to, temporary COVID-19 restrictions or various geopolitical uncertainties that may result in border closures or restricted access.

Primarily a highly useful tool for either business and leisure travelers, The Passport Index works very closely with the foreign ministries of many countries to not only have the latest up-to-date information, but also to advise various governments on how other countries’ policy can lead to more macro socio-economic insights.

Key functions of the app include highly informative, data protected, and personalised global mobility experiences. For example, you can:

  • Download the app for free on iOS and Android
  • Discover your Personal Global Mobility Score (PMS) and see how your passport(s) rank
  • Compare your passport with others and get current visa requirements
  • As a dual or multi passport-holder, you can combine your passports power for a higher overall PMS or see which of your passports is best suited for your destination
  • Access the Index’s proprietary tool – the World Openness Score (WOS) – and track global passport rankings like a stock index; noting the daily changes.
  • Keep track of the number and length of your trips
  • Keep a log of your destinations and the portion of the world traveled
  • Enjoy smart scan (passport cover only) to instantly get details on a particular passport, or to add one to your profile
  • Discover and learn interesting facts about 199 passports or travel documents
  • Benefit from access to the app for both on and offline use

Optional functions include:

  • Saving a secure backup of your passport(s) on your phone only, for future reference
  • Add a calendar reminder for your passport(s) expiration date and renewal

As a tech platform, The Passport Index is unmatched in the real-time information it provides and, as the creators of the app have indicated it is designed for continued augmentation, additional functionality and features are already planned to be added, in the near future.

At the Web Summit 21, you can go The Passport Index Stand (E139) in Pavilion 1, where you will be able to see one-on-one demos of the platform, and use the Passport Index interactive TouchPad module, situated at the kiosk, and learn more about the functionalities and data insights it offers.

“It is the goal of the Passport Index to not only provide the ultimate platform for the end user traveller, but to also promote the ideal of a more open world by working with governments and helping them identify the means that lead to greater freedom of movement and economic opportunity,” Arton added.

Borders should not be boundaries

On the topic on how we achieve a more open world, Global Citizen Forum’s CEO, Talimka Yordanova, commented: “In 2013, the Global Citizen Forum started as a flagship annual event that seeks to create informed dialogue, address how we achieve a more open world, influence the removal of barriers, and create supporting socio-economic opportunities for governments and individuals alike.”

The next Annual Summit entitled “The Future in Motion” will be held in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE on 12-13 December 2021 and will bring together some of the best and most creative global minds, heads of state, celebrity activists, and business leaders to examine the challenges and imagine the future of mobility.

The Global Citizen Forum has previously welcomed keynote speakers such as Kofi Annan, Robert De Niro, Akon, as well as political leaders and leading business people from around the world.
